Intel CPUs were at one point the go-to for nearly every market segment, with powerful products for gamers, datacenters, and content creators alike. AMD has dethroned them, and that’s led to some strangely cheap products popping up on Ebay… like this 28 core Xeon.

  • it makes me nervous the fact that linus doesn't comb his beard

  • This is pretty crazy, getting the CPU for 11% of the price and it still not being a great deal.

  • Wish I could get over 60 fps

  • How does it pair with Crossfired W6800x DUOs?

  • I hate graphical bios’s, seeing that text mode one was so nice…

  • this man has the best pcs i’ve ever seen and i’m still running an i3 with integrated graphics

  • That cpu original price - my current set up

  • Even $1K is too much for a total cheapskate like Linus!!!

  • I love how linus had to describe to me the difference between a bios and a fancy bios and why it matters. I guess no one buys gaming laptops lmao

  • Tech is temporary DOOM IS ETERNAL

  • It’s called “rectangular” there whippersnapper.

  • "Young whipper snapper kid", that would be you from my point of view..lol

  • Could we check what the gaming performance would be like under Linux? Maybe Linux could handle the cores better?

  • Sir please make video on how make raid 6 nvme sdd nas

  • Looks like a big, spendy piece of junk

  • Cook a pancake on it.

  • Oh how the turns have tabled... 11:34

  • Linus buys unstable ES/QS cpu than is surprise Pikachu face when its unstable...

  • Check it, even drunk, your sponsor gets skipped.

  • I just skip the part when you talk about your sponsor.

  • The adaptable var verbs = [aardvark practically claim because sack oceanographically unlock along a null enemy. draconian, deadpan literature

  • "Skips advertisement" No risk

  • You take risks, you looooose linus. I skip all your adds!

  • 2:36 Linus moves computer and SSD hangs by two cables

  • so it sucks

  • lol legacy bios i navigate easier in them than some of these uefi bios out there. mostly because of how much i loved x58 what i used clear into ryzen 3000. gotta love 30$ chips and now i think 8$ for 6c/12t of overclockable goodness and 30$ is unlocked aswell as from what i understand the w variants are unlocked as well as the x5680/90 chips. the newer x99 and x199 xeons are getting pretty cheap too. ive seen some hefty core count cpus (equal to or more than 18) for around 200$ usd from time to time. although from what i understand they are not unlocked processors on most x99 and most of x79 with the xeons.

  • Snif snif smells scam hmm..

  • Please do a Ryzen Threadripper 1900X vs Ryzen 5 5600X comparison video

  • why don’t you run CPU intensive games when testing the cores???! Games like besiege where you can simulate fully destructible planes and tanks? Or Teardown where EVERYTHING IS FULLY DESTRUCTIBLE, which makes my i9 9900k fall to its knees.

  • Can anyone tell me can I use four 8 gb 3600mhz ram in this MSI MPG Z590 GAMING EDGE WIFI motherboard.

    • Because I don't know anything about pc

  • That CPU is slower than a 5900x in Cinebench R15, and even slower than a 3600x in single core performance... I wouldn't pay 150 usds for it even if it came with a spare motherboard

  • So in summary blah, blah, blah blah, pitfalls, "cheap" - only $1000, blah, blah, blah, it actually sucks! Cool!

  • hi, i need advice. i just had a computer built for me to handle photo and video editing needs and presumed it would be super fast with the specs i got. but whenever i do anything slightly intensive, the cpu maxes out at 100% the whole time. I even did basic overclock to 4.7ghz but same issue. I didn't expect that from these specs. Suggestions? cpu: ryzen 7 5800x, mb: msi mpg x570 gaming edge, gpu: rtx 3060, ram: ballistix 32gb 3600mhz. Would getting a more expensive cpu make much difference?

  • Back around 2011 or 2012 I bought a huge dell workstation with dual Xeons for from 2007 for $150, and then bought two quad core LGA-771 CPUs for it for $20. In 2007 those parts were thousands of dollars. The most expensive new thing I bought was the DDR2 EEC RAM it had to use in these giant riser cards to get 32GB. I found 16GB of it for like $60. Then I used the workstation to run game servers for GMod and minecraft, or whatever we were playing at the time.

  • Not watching. "I bought this __________ for $0.19. Clickbait trash.

  • risk I take by you skipping this message from our sponsors lol

  • Oh no ThE bIOs iS nON gRapHIcAl xD

  • Q-pon

  • You guys should add RPCS3 to your benchmark suite of software, RPCS3 loves to have lots of cores and threads.

  • Huh. I have yet to have a graphical BIOS. Oh well.

  • When unmonke

  • I wonder if it would have performed better in Linux.

  • me doesnt skip's ad linus: like we take risk of you skipping the message of our sponser me:wait, wait, wait

  • the uninitiated.. Do tell!!

  • "speaking of bad gaming experience THIS WEEKS SPONSOR"

  • Would anyone please have a spare graphics card that they could please give me ... I just can not afford one.

  • big boi

  • this man got a wii hooked up to the bench PC

  • if i was a $1 behind you maybe i would take the risk of buying a pc part off of ebay or wish!

  • Trust me, four years later it will be 49 dollars left in value, why? Just look at the price of e5 2690 v3 today on ebay, it was tag 10000 dollars but now it worth nothing.

  • I classify everything on LTT into two categories: pre-beard and post-beard

  • Nice sideburns.

  • Great video. But come one... buying a 28core Platinum Xeon for Gaming? Esp. in a dual socket config this CPUs/ at this price are definetely better for that kind of task you show just at the and of the video. :-)

  • Hated that video soundtrack made me thinking that something is dripping or clanking outside the video so I had to pause it multiple times

  • okay I'll watch your plug in b.c f commie youtube t.v red

  • 👍👍👍

  • Server cpu not great at games... Who would have thought it...

  • For a few years I had an lga 1366 server gaming rig. It had 16 gb of ram and two xeon l5620's. That was a total of 12 cores but had a max speed of 2.7 ghz. So as you would expect gaming wasn't very good. Not to mention it had pcie 2.0. Using an R9 fury (which I still use for reasons of this market), I could only get 40 fps on games like the Witcher 3 and Apex Legends. So if you're thinking of doing something like this probably don't. The motherboards are finicky, the gaming performance sucks, and the cpus probably won't be supported very well so that probably affects security and performance. TLDR: I did this. Don't do it. Just buy a good priced Ryzen set up and you'll be fine for years.

  • Linus my dude...what's wrong with your left eye? Why do you look like this: O_- in your videos? Everything okay, man? ( 0:12 ... and no, that isn't the only example. That's only the most significant. Watch the whole thing with your 'eye' to his. Reminds me of the episode of Family Guy where Peter had a stroke.)

  • 2500k will do better in these tests.

  • Ok, so I typically would indeed skip the sponsor message, but since you said took a risk, I thought I’d let it pay off and watch it. I’m skipping the intro sequence though!

  • Desperate

  • We don’t mind. An Pentium 90 costed too 999 dollars a period and today 25 dollars and it works perfectly as an Dx2 66 or an pentium 166. No needed to go up.

  • @05:02 Nice

  • This is a server CPU. It's not really surprising it can't game. They're optimized for high core counts, which is suitable for a VM host, or a busy web server. It doesn't need to clock high for those tasks.

  • [Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap]

  • P0

  • Probably because it's as good as a $899 amd cpu

  • Used watch ur vid with great interest but when I realized that I can't afford it I started to feel bad so bought a laptop which has a AMD A6 9225. And now I can atleast play Minecraft at 30 fps!!!!!

  • how much hashrate has it? XMR mining?

  • Is it weird that I find the newer bios to be unusable...well, not unusable but cluttered and annoying to look at? I much prefer the boring simple-looking bios.

  • It is sorta sad watching Linus and the boys play around with all this tech, while I'm trying to game on old laptop.

  • LTT! The E5-2670 v2 which you show at the end is a v2 CPU, which is not supported by the Board you show, the listing says it supports v1 CPUs!

  • The problem with all these CPUs as always is the motherboard.

  • what do you need it for ???

    • For people with workstations on a budget

  • 0:57 ))))

  • 😘🥰💕💞💓💗❤️

  • Would a chip like this be good for folding at home?

  • I always watch the sponsor. I don't see much that I personally would buy into - but I know that the adverts have been curated(sortof) by someone that I trust and value the opinions of. Who knows - maybe one day I'll have a windows machine that needs Glasswire to see network activity.

  • Non-user friendly bios. Imagine if you still had to set a million jumpers from a poorly translated Chinese manual to get your stuff to work. 😂

  • I like LTT. It seems like all ya'll do is complain about stuff anymore. AND You are the "This Old House" of tech- meaning, tear down that shed and use your $250,000 budget to fix it. I just want to play MFS at spec, but there is no useable info here for me.

  • This is why you have to use Process Lasso to choose your cores and priorities for different processes when running high cores than aren't rated at a high GHz when all running.

  • Intel: wait, that's illegal.

  • funny, i bought a 999 cpu for 1999

  • So basically this was yet another video to trash Intel and promote AMD. Using a chip for not what it was designed for.

  • I would never skip a message from the sponsor (:

  • I was waiting for him to drop it.

  • "runs really well one minute, then chokes on it's own vomit" is a great description of me doing sports

  • L

  • lol i like how the dislike is at 911

  • My old laptop still has a normal bios, so I am still familiar to navigate this ( if you are using vm ware, just go into the bios,it's also not a "modern" bios)

  • Hey, we "whippersnappers" who have old office boxes, are very familiar with navigating around those old BIOS menus!

  • I want old bios navigation back... I can-t bloody find anything with the new interface they're using these days.

  • 9:36 - Quick, it's about to go critical! - What the hell is going on with our equipment? - It wasn't meant to do this in the first place...

  • Linus talking about skipping sponsor. I didn't think about it, but when he said it, it had to be done.

  • When I buy a server CPU, I know what I am doing with it. This video is for kids that think cores = fast = better gaming, AND to dissuade people from buying ES procs because the manufacturers that are Linus's benefactors don't like them being on the 2nd hand market.

  • Last year I got some cheap xeons and built my computer! Its more stable than the i9! A tid bit slower for one core, but for two it is blazing fast! It is much more stable and does not overheat!

  • With the shortage of microprocessors, are used memory chips from servers worth more?
